Cats In The Hatt

Last Updated 22JUL2010

Cats In The Hatt is a 1975 36’ Hatteras Convertible. It is powered by two Caterpillar 3208 turbocharged engines, thus the name Cats In The Hatt. The boat was originally built with 3208 naturally aspirated engines, and repowered with 260 HP 3208Ts  in 1989.

We purchased the boat in May 2003.  We are the third owners.  The boat has been in fresh water the last eight years on the Illinois River.  It has been hauled, winterized, shrink wrapped and stored every winter since 2003.

The engines run great, able to reach rated rpm with no problem.  The transmissions work and shift great.  The generator works fine and will carry the house load with both air conditioners.  Both air conditioners work well.  We took the boat from Peoria. IL to Lake Michigan and back last summer (July 2009).  We put 60 hours on it in two weeks.  We have used the boat almost every weekend in the "usable" months since we have owned the boat.

We purchased the boat thinking that this would be our retirement boat, but now realize that we need something a little bigger.  We have several boats in mind, but would like to sell this one before moving on.

Below is a complete description of the boat and a list of updates and improvements we have made since 2003.
